Lucus Luhr and Klaus Graf piloted the Honda Performance Development ARX-03a to the podium for the second straight year at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Graf finished a lap ahead of Dyson Racing’s duo of Chris Dyson and Guy Smith in their No. 16 Lola-Mazda coupe. There was a difference of a lap between the two.
The GT battle was close, with 0.283 of a second separating the Corvette Racing C6 ZR1, piloted by Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner and the Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3, driven by Jorg Bergmeister and Patrick Long. Gavin took the lead, while the Flying Lizards’ team was in for a pit stop, but the battle went down to the checkered flag.
The Level 5 Motorsports duo of Scott Tucker and Chrisophe Bouchut drove the HPD ARX-03B past Conquest Endurance’s Martin Plowman and David Heinemeier-Hansson, for a 7.153 second victory in the P2 class.
The P1 Mathiasen Motorsports team, piloted by Mariano Franchitti and Rudy Jenco, secured their first Prototype Challenge Victory for the year after the CORE Autosport Oreca FLM09 entry, driven by Ryan Dalziel, ran out of fuel and was forced to pit for a splash of fuel with just two laps remaining.
Tim Pappas and Jeroen Bleekemolen got top spot in the GTC category. The JDX Racing No. 11 car won the class last year at Mid Ohio. This was JDX’s first ALMS Victory.
IndyCar’s top qualifier for Sunday’s upcoming IZOD IndyCar contest was Will Power, who took the pole and broke the track record with a stellar 1:05.6474 minute lap time. It is anticipated that with the forecasted bad weather on Sunday and dropping temperatures, a new record may be set.
