Unofficial lap times by more than half the field were between 1 and 2 seconds quicker than 2011 practice and qualifying. Track conditions were ever changing with the sun playing hopscotch with the clouds all day.

[br]The track allowed spectators in free of charge to enjoy the day. Many longtime attendees of the legendary track enjoyed the action, along with curious fans that had never been.[br][br]

According to Mid-Ohio, 24 entrants were participating today. This was the first time for a combined test at Mid-Ohio. Simona DiSalvestro tested July 2nd. Penske driver Will Power tested the Dallara chassis for Indy Car last August.[br][br]

Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing driver Charlie Kimball was treated for a fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his right hand at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio, after being involved in an incident during a team test July 26 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, according to INDYCAR medical director Dr. Michael Olinger.
