B’TWIN in Partnership with Local Motors Announce 2-topic, 4-Week CAD Competition for Engineers

B’TWIN has issued a sophisticated challenge to CAD design a suspension and transmission system for the winning “Velocity” Velomobile bike concept designed by Local Motors member, John Bukasa.

The Velocity may be the first community co-created velomobile bike. B’TWIN hosted the industrial design challenge for a human-electric hybrid velomobile tricycle on Local Motors Forge (www.forge.localmotors.com), and John Bukasa’s Velocity design was voted as winner both by the open Local Motors community and B’TWIN panel of judges. Now, B’TWIN wants to move forward in development and would like to prototype the concept.

B’TWIN has detailed a specific and exciting vision for the intended functionality of the Velocity. Bukasa’s design will begin development during a 2-topic 4-week engineering competition. The first topic is to optimize and simplify the suspension and transmission module, and the second is to optimize the steering and front suspension module.

B’TWIN will choose any Entries they are interested in for either of the two topics that both meet the requirements and address a solution satisfactorily, and will award them $3,000.00 for each entry chosen.

Local Motors and B’TWIN are eager to share this challenge and are planning to support the learning opportunity with unprecedented feedback and collaboration. Both B’TWIN and Local Motors professional engineering teams will be offering continuous feedback to participating engineers on a 1-on-1 basis; this competition is more private than previous, allowing B’TWIN to be as upfront and in-depth as possible with the material and feedback provided.
